Angela's Testimonial

By all accounts my toilet training was peaceful and without incident. According to relatives I was out of diapers day and night by Christmas of 1966, when I was not quite 30 months old. I don't remember. My younger brother was born about Easter 1967. Mom, my Grannies and Aunts used Curity gauze diapers on him, with Gerber plastic panties. None of that interested me, until that Labor Day Weekend. We were going to a picnic sponsored by my father's employer, in a desert camp park a couple of hours away. I was surprised that Mom told me to wait for help getting dressed, because even at age 3 I could put on my own clothes. Mom asked me to lie on my bed, as she slid a diaper under me, pinned it and covered it with a pair of Gerber panties in my size. That was the first time I remember being diapered. Mom answered my protests by saying it would be a long trip, Dad could not stop for toilet breaks, and besides at the picnic there would be few potties. Mom continued that my older sister (8yo at the time) and my older brother (6yo then) were also wearing diapers. This was not punishment, or a lack of faith. Mom concluded by showing me she also was wearing cloth diapers and plastic panties. In the car Mom confided that she needed diapers every night and sometimes even during the day. I think I had my diaper changed once on a blanket, and again in the car just before we started home. From then on all us kids wore diapers and plastic panties while driving on long trips. Since we lived close to a lot of cousins, all of whom also were diapered for trips, none of us thought this weird. Our parents were discreet, and I don't remember being embarrassed. My youngest sister, Missy, was born 2 weeks before I turned 5. About the same time Mom told me all the women in the family lost at least some nighttime bladder control with puberty. I was not supposed to worry. By the time my big sister needed diapers at night, we had seen Mom diapered frequently, and it was no big deal. We were temporarily living in the Mid-West when I reached puberty at age 12. Sure enough, I lost some control at night. Not a flood, but a persistent dribble. Mom took me to a couple of doctors and bought me a few more plastic panties. The entire family shared the supply of Curity 21x40 flat diapers, which could be folded in many ways. By age 13 my big brother actually convinced our parents he had good bladder capacity, so from then on he never wore diapers. Mom, her sisters, my sisters and me all still need night diapers, and I'm a 36yo married litigation attorney partner with a major law firm! Far from resenting her diapers, Missy always enjoyed them. Within weeks of reaching puberty, Missy was an active big baby, which today we would call a Teen Baby. Since I had already started college, I learned about that in letters from Missy and Mom, who cooperated. Mom said that Missy had not shocked her because she herself rather enjoyed her diapers, as did many of our relatives.
When I was nearly 27 I discovered that I have an inner big baby. Fortunately my husband has been great about all of this. Please understand that I share this personal information with all of you in the hope that all parents of older children and teens who either need diapers due to some medical problem or just for emotional support, will cooperate and show sympathy, like my family did for us kids.
